Well he never mentioned what campaign he has, and he never the mentioned what professions he played through; so all we can assume is he wants to start a new class. You see why it’s hard to be to sure what he wants without going into specific detail. Anyways to Mr. Dew, you kind of shot yourself in the foot just a bit with relevant classes you don’t want to pick. However the real question is what the Nightfall campaign demand in the majority of the time? Since you don’t want to be a monk, warrior, (sometimes this class is over abundant anyways, and is hard to get picked) or a necromancer, it’s all you’ve got left to ask yourself.

I don't know if Mr. Dew (or Mrs. for that matter) owns factions. If he indeed does own the game, creating a ritualist and play it till level 20 in Kaineng (which will probably be the point from where we can ship ourselves to Nightfall campaign) should not take more then a week (I can do it in a day, but then it's almost non stop playing, which I doubt most people will like..)
So Dew, you limited your choices to these --> Elem, Mesmer, Assasin, Rit, Ranger, Paragon, Dervish.. Since we cannot say anything about paragons or dervishes being liked or disliked, and you didn't want to play a character that has a hard time getting into a party (Assasin anyone?) your most save bet would either be a Elementalist if you only own prophecies/nightfall, or a Ritualist if you happen to own Factions..
With this I rest my case.. I leave it up to you (or the jury) to decide..

in the beggining of the game everything will be accepted except mesmers and sins but even those will be taken by the newbies or the people that knwo the proffesions true potential. Dervish and Paragon don't seem to be classes like the sin and mes who will be shunned as useless.

I believe it has been confirmed though in one of Gaile's in-game chats +1/-1 week around the time of the BWE that owners of Factions can create Elonian-born assassins and ritualist.

In my mind, you can divide the core classes in to 2 groups. There are the traditional classes, and then those that are a little different. Warrior, Monk, and Elementalist are all traditional classes. Fighter, Healer, Mage. you dont want to play a monk, so if you prefer tanking, then go for the warrior, or ele if you want to nuke. Nukers and tanks are always loved, but tanks seem to be in higher supply right now, so if you manage to create a good nuker, you should be able to get a good number of groups with that. Mesmer, Ranger, and Necromancer are the odd classes out. Not one has a set role in a party, and they all are a bit tougher to play. Good Barrage rangers are always welcome to a party, and if you dont want to play MM, then go for a solid SS necro. widely loved. Mesmers are often looked down upon for PvE, so if you're mainly concerned with getting into groups, avoid those.
Factions classes and Nightfall classes all seem to fit in said second group. Assassins are excellent damage dealers, and they also do conditions quite well, but are often looked down upon in PvE. Ritualists are excellent multi-purpose classes, but more often then not, you'll be asked to heal.
Since Nightfall isn't here for another 5 days, i can only guess how paragon/dervish are going to work, but here's how i see it. Paragon will be the ultimate support class, another fave for groups since, like rits, can do a little bit of everything, including healing. Dervishes are like tanks, but will be more relied upon as damage dealers rather than damage absorbers. i think that paragons will be more popular in groups than dervishes, at least until all the OMG NEW CLASSES ROFL SUPER OMG EXPLOSION hype dies down.
Summary: Warrior, Ele, Ranger, Paragon. You choose.

Had to think about this one for a little while, I knew it was from somewhere Found it now, Storm in X-men "do you know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning???" hehe
If you want something easy to play, I say go ele. Necros, mesmers, monks, warriors, even rangers are classes that while "seeming easy" take real skill to play - a good knowledge of the map. Ok, mm doesn't really, but it is only one necro build.
A bad ele in a good team gives no one headaches.

I apologize if I upset you as a moderator by my post. However how am I to know what he does or does not own. The OP does not indicate what he does or does not own I must draw my own conclusions. Furthermore I did quantify my statement by saying

Well if you have Factions...

If I have done any insulting to the OP then by all means chastise my statements. If not please refrain from accusing my post as madness. I would expect better from any moderator.
Thank you

I think we have to see what mission/farming there is going to be in Nightfall.
For example, no one want rit in the Deep's cookie cutter. While Rit lord is always welcomes in urgoz.

well even though you said you didn't want them warriors will be still useful, as will necromancers (MM, SS, BIP etc), monks and Mesmer's pretty much all the cores.
Assassin's I'm unsure of, Ritualist's I think will be able to get into a party possibly a monk substitute.
Also the new professions may have a frenzy where everyone is playing them like faction's assassins which totally overloaded the missions and outposts :P so if you want to get to the end asap one of the cores should be the way forward in my opinion. Unless you are pretty good with hero skills. In which case we could see more hero parties than human which could end up filling the blanks in a incomplete party, there's 14 hero's you could have a solution to anything really if you need one certain build.

It was referred to chat log what many miss understanded.
I play with Assassin in Tyria and Cantha and easily get to PUG party (European servers you get easily to party even with Assassin). That it happen to eg American server that Assassin not get group it does not mean that it happen every server.

I don't see a reason trying to find a class for someone who plays with preconceived views on characters, and wants to play one thats useful according to "other people's opinion".

Just go with whatever profession you like the best. If people won't take you use the heroes.

To be honest, any profession that isn't assassin or mesmer will be pretty much wanted, however i'm leaning towards monks being a shortage like always.. and devrishes will be used everywhere, so that won't be to good, so as far as safe i'd go with elementalist or warrior, (personally i'll play with my warrior first, i don't care what everyone thinks ^^)

I support the MM build after seeing the new minions/elite skill, and after seeing the amount of bodies you can make just in Istan. SS would also be good since you got Paragorns next to mages yelling all the time.

Yes, I was actually off a few weeks; the log that this was confirmed was on September 14.
Anyways, here it is, for the info about Elonian assassins and ritualist, just look a little below the half way point of the log.
